First time opening it

Bits-Crypto is new, so your computer may not recognise it yet. That's normal:

  1. Windows: if SmartScreen says “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway.
  2. macOS: if it says the app can't be opened, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
  3. Linux: if it won't start, make it executable with chmod +x bits-crypto-qt.

Only do this for files you downloaded from this page and whose checksum matches.

Check your download is genuine

Every file has a SHA-256 checksum, shown above and in the published checksum file. Run the command for your system on the downloaded file. If the result matches exactly, the file is genuine and untouched. If it doesn't, delete it and download again.

Windows (Command Prompt)certutil -hashfile bits-crypto-qt.exe SHA256
macOS (Terminal)shasum -a 256 Bits-Crypto-Core-1.1.1-macos-apple-silicon.dmg

03 · Stay safe

Your keys. Your coins.

Crypto has no “forgot password” button. A few habits keep your BITS safe.

  • Encrypt your walletSet a strong passphrase so nobody can spend your coins if they get your computer.
  • Back it upKeep a backup somewhere safe and offline. Without it, lost coins can't be recovered.
  • Never share your keysBITS will never ask for your private keys, seed or passphrase. Anyone who does is a scammer.
  • Check every downloadOnly download from this page and compare the SHA-256 checksum before you run it.
