SHA-256 ASICs
SHA-256d
Double SHA-256, Bitcoin's algorithm. Brings large, battle-tested hash power.
Mining
Five algorithms run side by side on one chain, so CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs and ASICs can all earn BITS, and no single type of hardware gets to run the show.
01 · Algorithms
From block 501, five algorithms are live at the same time. Each block records which one mined it in its nVersion field.
SHA-256 ASICs
Double SHA-256, Bitcoin's algorithm. Brings large, battle-tested hash power.
Scrypt ASICs · CPUs
Memory-hard. The algorithm Bits-Crypto launched with, and the one URPool supports today.
GPUs
Skein-512 followed by SHA-256.
GPUs
A chain of five hashes: Luffa, CubeHash, SHAvite-3, SIMD and ECHO.
FPGAs · GPUs
Changes its internal structure every 10 days, seeded from the block timestamp, so fixed-function ASICs can't keep up.
Groestl (ID 2) is never active. Nodes reject any block mined with an inactive algorithm with the error bad-algo, so the rule is enforced by the whole network, not just by well-behaved miners.
To rewrite history on a single-algorithm chain, an attacker needs a majority of one type of hardware. Here they would have to dominate four different hardware markets at once: SHA-256 ASICs, Scrypt ASICs, GPUs and FPGAs.
From height 500, nodes choose the heaviest chain with a multi-algorithm work formula. Piling hash power onto one algorithm isn't enough to decide which chain wins.
02 · How it launched
The chain launched with no industrial hardware required, then opened up to every kind of miner at block 501.
Heights 1 – 500
N=1024, r=1, p=1, the same parameters as Litecoin.~uint256(0) >> 20 with no starting-target overrides, so every algorithm began at minimum difficulty.Height 501 onward
03 · Difficulty: DigiSpeed V4
Hash power swings fast on a young network. Retargeting every block, separately for each algorithm, stops a big miner from grabbing cheap blocks and leaving everyone else stuck.
The target
Each algorithm aims for one block every 75 seconds, averaged over its last 10 blocks, so the averaging window is 750 seconds. Together, the five produce a block every 15 seconds.
It gets harder slowly and easier quickly, so the chain keeps moving if a large miner leaves.
04 · Start mining
Join a pool for steady payouts, or run your own node and mine solo. The protocol is open either way.
Easiest
Point any Scrypt miner at our mining partner's stratum server and start earning shares straight away.
stratum+tcp://urpool.io:3032
Full control
Run your own bits-cryptod node and mine against it directly. Pick any of the five algorithms and keep 100% of every block you find.
getblocktemplate
generatetoaddress <n> <addr> <maxtries> <algo>
Both commands take the algorithm as a parameter.
Download the nodeMining partner
URPool supports Bits-Crypto with a public mining pool, so anyone can start mining in minutes without running their own node.
You don't have to use URPool. Anyone can solo mine against their own node or run a competing pool.
